Just found this little guy in my backyard. I love finding mushrooms like this after the rain, as they show our soil is healthy, but also remind me of the web of life that binds all together.
Because fungi can’t produce their own energy from the sun they rely on symbiosis – living in relation with the organisms around them. Trees and mushrooms have such a strong relationship because of this, with the roots of the tree and the mushrooms sharing nutrients in a way that benefits both. The mushrooms help the trees take minerals from the soil, and the tree feeds the mushrooms with the sugars it needs but can’t produce itself … Beautiful! ??
